It was just a question guys. That's it! If his child support stays the same, then so be it. No need to get all antsy and nasty with me.

Thanks for all of your responses:)

his child support stays the same until a significant factor changes it. So stop looking for petty crap, it won't fly.

When YOU stop THEY will stop.

Stepmom, you're missing the point with child support. Child support is ordered so that the child may have a standard of living that is close to what he/she would enjoy if the parents lived together. Child support is ordered to help the custodial parent to provide that standard of living. Providing some of the baby's necessities in your home does nothing to improve the standard of living in the custodial home, so cannot be construed as child support.

that was the most beautiful definition of child support i have ever seen!!

A person of this OP's way of thinking isn't going to understand it no matter how you say it.

she may, or she may not. being a NCP parent in the past...that comment did definitely clear up the thinking i USED to have about child support when i was the one paying it. it made sense in a layman's terms.

You should have diapers etc needed at your home irregardless of whether spouse pays child support. What if Mom miscalculates how many diapers etc. are needed during visitation?

What would you do then?

In answer to your question, no you can't lower child support for this reason.

So, what do you expect to happen when the child starts potty training? Pullups are a little more expensive than diapers(at least in my area). So, when the child starts wearing pullups at night, should the mother take the father to court to raise child support? I mean, it's going to cost HER a little extra every month (just as it would for him to provide his own diapers).

This is insane. It's really hard for me to believe if this woman is actually real!

so what is a true and correct definition of child support that a person of this OP's way of thinking can understand?

The purpose of child support is to ensure the child receives financial support equally from both parents. It is based on costs incurred by the CP and both parents' incomes (imputed, if necessary) and has nothing to do with the "standard of living" enjoyed when the family was intact.

we dont have a problem buying stuff, we just want to know can his support be reudced since the baby is being taking care of

You mean YOU want to know. The answer is NO. God lord!

If you have a problem with DAD buying things for his child over and above support, you need to find a man who isn't a daddy.

and to the other critics:

My bad... geez... Let me rephrase somewhat. The original intent of child support laws was to insure that the child may have a standard of living that is close to what he would enjoy if the parents had stayed together. Nothing was said about maintaining a standard of living that was enjoyed when the family was intact. There is a difference. Also, the purpose is not to insure the child receives financial support equally from both parents, but equitably from both parents. Finally, it is true that both parents' incomes are used to determine support in some states, but not in all states. Actually, the quote above speaks more to "standard of living" than not.

ps - if you have an accurate and relevant definition of child support, or the purpose of chlild support, then please post it for the rest of us.

Do you all think that Stepmom4ever and stepmomintx are related?:(

I don't remember who it was, but I do remember thinking someone sounded like a sockpuppet.

By the way, Stepmom4ever--remember this?

This is going to be another 96 posts of "it's none of your business", each one followed by OP's acknowledgment and agreement, followed by another thread next week with yet another overstepping question.

no it wont because I'm done with it. we will have to wait until the child is 3 years of age. thats it

I'd be smug about my astonishing foresight if it weren't for the fact that everybody thought it. I'm just the one that said it.

WHATEVER! Like I said, I'm done
