Ok, so if you're so concerned about what these folks think of how you look then wax them brows and cut your hair short and wear clothes from Walmart. Sheesh.

Well, I guess that settles it:

There's no way I can sue the living daylights out of this college for the appearance-based harassment. Too bad... perhaps one day this will be covered under some civil rights legislation. I would have greatly enjoyed putting out a few administrators or professors on the streets.

Thank you to the few people that posted helpful responses.

That is a good question. Although the obvious characteristic such as skin color and height are common between the two,
other features such as head shape, hair growth patterns, and nose/eyes/mouth/ears/etc... features may be different. This would lead
to distinctive appearances easily standing out to locals who are accustomed to a standard, familiar set of features.

I disagree. I'm first generation, from mixed Eastern & Western European stock. I look as American as anyone else. You lose on this response. Try again.

That is a bad question, go F yourself.

It wasn't a question - it was a statement.

I have none of those, but I do have more "prominent" eyebrows, which may perhaps draw attention. That's why I said I had some European features that are different from your average Tennessean.

I've seen plenty of Americans with "prominent" eyebrows. I've even seen Americans with only one eyebrow. Waxing works. Unless you prefer the Neanderthal look - then you'll have to suck up the stares.

That's absolutely correct. Personal appearance is a protected characteristic only in the District of Columbia (height and weight is protected in Michigan).

And even if that were not the case, just try winning a lawsuit on the basis of what you've posted, which sounds along the lines of a nine year old whining, "Mom! He's looking/not looking at me again!"

Grow up.

I tried to help.

You ridiculed me.

Now, you can go bye bye.

Ya know, if you take your meds, these little episodes become far less frequent.

My advice still stands, no matter what you think, OP. You're just making it more obvious every post you make.

Well since you asked, i'm actually of Swedish descent and I can assure you I look just like everyone else in America. I also have a good friend who's entire family is directly from Poland and they look just like everyone else in America. Have a good friend who is from Russia and he looks just like everyone else in America. Have several German friends (directly from Germany) and they look just like everyone else in America....

Should I continue or are you getting the point??

I do have to support the OP's claims concerning the differences based on ethnicity. A Swede does not look anything like a Pole who doesn't look anything like an Italian.

and yes, Germans and Russians look different as well.

don't even get me started on Brits (you think the Austin Powers look is just random oddities tossed together?)

You have to be aware of ethnic cue but they are there. If you can't tell the difference between Elan Nordegren and Dr. Ruth, you really are blind to prejudice and hooray for you.

anyway, OP sounds a wee bit hypersensitive.

and of course, the OP is the only international student, or even student from somewhere outside of Tennessee at that school.

after going back and reading the first post:

Professors will look at me with disdain, avoid eye contact, position themselves behind another student to avoid a direct line of vision, try to end conversations as quickly as possible when I ask about classwork, and generally do not respect my right to feel comfortable in the classroom.
professors ducking behind other students?

I suspect the OP must simple be so horrendously hideous that they cannot actually look at the OP without having violent convulsions.

Yes, this could be it, and I was wondering if I could sue them to hell for it. Apparently, there aren't laws for this kind of thing, so I guess they get away with it.

No, it wouldn't be their fault you are that ugly. You might look into a suit against mom or dad although I suspect that wouldn't be successful either.
