Hi, I received a bicycle red light ticket on 9/23/16. I was riding a citibike and ran a red light in Chinatown in Manhattan. So it's a bicycle red light ticket for $180 with no points. There were no cars in the area and it was a T intersection so it was completely safe and normal to run it like 99% of bicyclists do in the city. Also, I believe the cop was standing at an angle where he couldn't have seen what color the light was. Anyway, I have a Florida driver's license, and plead not guilty. I had a court date in January 2017 but didn't show up, and now I just received a notice in the mail titled "Notice of Default Conviction and License Suspension." The fee is now $425. I do not live in New York, so I was thinking I can just ignore this ticket. I understand I can be arrested if I step foot back in NYC but am willing to take that risk. Would appreciate your thoughts, thanks! I'm going to be back in NYC in a week for a month, so can I show up to the court house a request a new court date or is it too late for that?

Computers are amazing...you don't think that Florida will find out? Suspended in NY=Suspended in FL.
No, you can't just ignore this...grow up.

Lol, Zigner I see you have a long history of writing back sarcastic replies to earnest posters. I feel bad for you that you've nothing better to do. You're the one who should grow up and realize there are better ways to interact with people, yes, even anonymously on the internet where there are no repercussions to being rude.

I wasn't rude, I was blunt.

No you cannot be arrested. And no, it's not okay or safe to run red lights on a bicycle.

If you fail to pay the judgment New York State will suspend your privilege to drive here. If you still don't pay the fine then New York DMV will notify Florida and then Florida will suspend your license.

You can petition to vacate the default conviction. Of course, if you had attended your hearing you wouldn't have this issue. You could have requested a Trial by Affidavit so you would not have to appear. I'd recommend getting an attorney to handle this for you but you don't seem to care, so whatever.

It'll be a month or two probably before your actual license in Florida gets suspended.

No, I think YOU are the one who should "grow up" and realize that adults have certain responsibilities and shouldn't be breaking the law and then trying to evade the consequences.
