What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? England UK
I have been sent notice of intended prosecution for doing 36 mph in a 30 mph zone. There was no sign saying the speed limit had dropped from a 40 mph zone to 30 mph zone. I have not sent this off yet or my letter of mitigation. My wife was ill in the car and I needed to drive another 100 to 200 yards further to a place that it was safe to park. On stopping I opened the passenger door and then got back in car to phone the hospital. I was told that there was a pharmacy close by, rather than attempt to drive the 3 miles to hospital due to traffic congestion, and so I drove a little further to the pharmacy where they helped her with her breathing with the aid of an inhaler. My wife has been suffering from these difficulties for several months but the doctors aren't doing anything to sort out the problem. After leaving the pharmacy I travelled another mile to my sister's house, she is a nurse, and she checked my wife out and we stopped there until the temperatures outside had fallen from 90 degrees Fahrenheit outside, and probably 100 degrees in the car, and then travelled the 120 miles back home. Because of my wife's health I won't be able to travel the 120 miles to the magistrates court in that city so I will have to rely on my letter of mitigation.
What is the likely outcome?
We are in a desperate financial plight and I cannot afford a fine or points on my license that will increase my insurance premium. My wife cannot work and I have to work at home to pay our bills and am currently arranging terms to pay of bills over longer periods due to two of my clients going bankrupt.
