The first number is the number of times in the 5 years I was a reporter that I was threatened with a defamation lawsuit to the point where the other guy got a lawyer. The second number is the number of times it when any further than a call or letter from the lawyer.

Oh. You are not going to get a reporter to reveal his source.

The fact that the information was correct is what matters.

I don't have the article in front of me currently but there were phrases that I would have edited from it prior to publication. The article seemed to me to draw conclusions for the reader, which can be a legally dangerous thing for a reporter to do.

But I didn't analyze the story very carefully so my impression on a second read might be different.

You can speak to an attorney in your area for an opinion but it is extremely difficult to be successful with any defamation claim against reporters and newspapers.

Are you saying that the judge has thrown out your defamation case against the reporter?

I've read the article.

It isn't the best-written news story I've seen and I would have edited out the "Some neighbors accused OP, BLAH BLAH BLAH" paragraph had I been the paper's editor. But even if there is a factual error in the story you would have to prove that the report/paper knew or should have known the fact was wrong. I'm just not seeing a successful suit out of this.
