What is the name of your state? CA. Someone please help me to understand this in simpler terms. Am I literally supposed to try to flee my house if an invader breaks/comes in BEFORE I CAN INFLICT HARM ON THE INTRUDER? Man, F that. At that point, you lost someone or something valuable to you. Might as well make the person pay? https://legiscan.com/CA/text/AB1333/2025 if the link doesn’t work it’s AB 1333.

That's California for you.

It's simple. It means that you can't kill somebody unless they are trying to kill or maim you or another person.

Forget protecting your property with a gun.

Even if you kill somebody in self-defense, it doesn't stop there. You'll still be prosecuted and have to spend $50,000 or more on a legal defense.

California wants to keep its criminals safe rather than its law abiding citizens.

How likely you think it’ll pass??

Having lived in CA most of my life (thank God I escaped), I can guarantee it will pass

Knowing CA's penchant for draconian anti-gun laws, I almost would have agreed.

But there seems to be a significant backlash and even Zbur (the instigator who tried to sneak it in) is backtracking with the suggestion of amendments to "clarify" provisions of the bill.

California Bill Restricts Self-Defense Against Crime, Ends Crime-Stopping Protection – California Globe

The way Californians can defeat this bill is to make their representatives (including Gov Gruesome) that they face un-election if it passes.

Someone please help me to understand this in simpler terms.

How much more simple could it be: "Existing law defines homicide as the unlawful killing of a human being, or a fetus, with or without malice aforethought, as specified. Existing law establishes certain circumstances in which homicide is justifiable, as specified.
This bill would eliminate certain circumstances under which homicide is justifiable, including, among others, in defense of a habitation or property. The bill would additionally clarify circumstances in which homicide is not justifiable, including, among others, when a person uses more force than necessary to defend against a danger."

Am I literally supposed to try to flee my house if an invader breaks/comes in BEFORE I CAN INFLICT HARM ON THE INTRUDER?

Nothing in the bill says that.

Even under current law, a revenge killing is illegal.

What are the chances of this passing?

I don't have the slightest idea. The bill was only proposed two weeks ago.
