Is it possible to collect unemployment as an indepedant contractor? I worked part-time in 2004 and 2005?
Thank you.

My mother is deceased. She has a home improvement loan due upon her death. The loan is greater than her liquid assets. Are her 3 children responsible for the remainder and need to take a loan out to repay? We would like to keep the house to rent...
Yes, I have been employed 2/98 to 7/2/04 but was placed on disability 7/18/03 to 11/03 when I became permanent and stationary. I started vocational rehab 1/27/04 and will complete 2/05. I remained technically employed until July 2004. I have over 200 hrs of vacation owed as well as my 401k.

I was placed on disability on 7/18/03, however, I did not terminate my employment until 7/2/04. I have not yet received my exit packet and vacation pay. Are there specific time restraints in which they need to provide those items? My worker's comp...
When to settle claim?

I am P&S with typing and writing modifications and will be sent to vocational training. Why is the cost to see a counselor $3500-$5000 so high? What services other than informing you of programs do they serve? For limited typing/writing, what kind...
Update & how to proceed?
Hi Beth,
California
Things have changed since I last posted. In April I filed a wc claim due to my arm becoming numb. I have received PT treatment during May and June. In July, the worker's comp specialist placed me on short term disability. In July I began...
what at the end of 4 weeks and physical therapy is completed and they say i'm able to work without further treatment and say it's not permanent?
if permanent or partial, then payment offered or lifetime medical care?
no, the wc doctor is the one provided for me from hr wc specialist. what happens when my treatment is completed? do they close the claim? and what if my arm starts hurting again 2 weeks or 2 months later and re-open claim?
new status
wc claim under way. was seen by wc orthopedic doctor. he prescribes physical therapy for tendonitis.
what happens to the claim if i change employers while still being treated by wc? what do i need to do? does current employer continue to pay for treatment even when i change...
wc adjuster phoned me and i expressed my desire not to pursue claim. he advised to place this in writing and then he would send confirmation. i don't think my conditions are caused by work, i think it's because of all the stress from that billing issue i've been dealing with for the past year...
i informed hr i wanted to canel, but would have to wait until the adjuster received my claim and let him know in writing so he can deny claim. however, when i tried to make the appt w/ my doctor, they're checking w/ billing to see if they can accept me w/ an open wc claim. so still waiting...
as it stands. i've sent hr an email wishing to cancel claim, but no one's gotten back to me. i've left a message w/ wc carrier i wanted to cancel w/ no response. i can't see doctor of my choice and say it's work related and be treated and be covered w/ HR confirmation that i cancelled the...
so i can quit my job and accept employment elsewhere at anytime regardless of wc or disability. that's good to know.
Beth, in order to avoid complications group insurance provider, will written comfirmation (informal email) from HR that my claim has been canceled be proof enough that group...
the whole lawyer thing is main reason. i should have checked into wc sites before filing. also hr made it seem simple- file claim and see doctor. i'd rather pay 20% to see doctor of my choice, be treated w/o delay, added paperwork, hr and attorney involvement. if anyone can confirm i can...
Hi Faigele,
I don't even want to deal with all this. I don't want an attorney and don't want to see their doctors. Why should I not cancel the claim? It is possible isn't it?
Thanks,
Whiskee
I'll give it a go. You'd think they'd be happy someone would want to cancel the claim. I just want to see a doctor of my choice and get treated. Can they make me complete further forms and can I just not accept their doctors' appointments? Or after their determination of liability can I...
