i was adopted in 1978 or rather not adopted. my 17 yr old mother gave me up for adoption signing papers without an adult present and then 6 months later my "adopted parents " took me out of state with out finishing the paperwork or being my legal guardians. my birth mother is now saying that they abducted me and that she has full legal fights to persue them in a court. is this true and what should i do?? this is crazy and i am scared for my "adoptive parents",

From what I've been able to tell from the brief amount of research I've done, any crime that may have been committed here (and honestly, do you know if any of this is even true?) is long since passed, and your parents have nothing to worry about.

On a personal note, if she's bothering you, it's perfectly ok for you to just cease communications with her and stop responding. She sounds a bit unhinged, and the situation is emotional enough for you without having to worry about her threats.

Do we know where OP is located?

No, no, you're right though! It matters what state she was allegedly abducted from AND what state she is in now.

I'm not sure how much it matters. It was 33 years ago - and nothing has been done since. If someone had wanted to do something, it should have been done ages ago.

OP is now an adult and can choose who to associate with.

The birthmom's story is likely BS. Unless the parents changed their names and hid, if there WERE actually any legal charges of wrongdoing, they could have been found many years ago.

In many states, once the birthparent signs relinquishment, the birthparent must actively rescind during the statutory recission period, else the adoption can go forward and finalize without them. The adoptive parents don't normally go back again to the bioparents months later for a second round of signatures!

Odds are, legally, the parents had every right to move six months later.

1978 adoption

i was born in florida and my adopted parents took me to michigan when i was six months old and the papers were not signed for adoption. they never finished them they were my legal guardians in florida and were not supposed to take me out of the state till papers were finalized. this step they never did finish and they changed my birth name and told me i legally had to change it in court when i turned 18. my birth mom told me that she was looking for me since i was a year old and there was no paper trail. all the paperwork was in my adoptive name. i know my birth moms story isnt all bs bc i have been shown the papers not signed and the fact that i was told at 16 that i was never legally adopted makes me believe her. my birth mom was just telling me the facts or what she believes to be fact. and says shes not going to pursue this action but i am afraid that if and when she does my adoptive parents will be in a lot of trouble. is there really a statue of limitation on this if indeed it was a crime? i certainly hope so.

Let this be your birth mother's problem.

I'm sure if she actually had a case, she would have had an attorney involved before now.

Ask yourself what her motivation is for telling you this. Ask yourself what she wishes to accomplish.

And realize that no matter what she finds, it doesn't need to have any impact on you unless you want it to. Whether or not she's your birth mother, it is entirely your decision as to whether you want to ever talk to her or not. You're an adult and have the absolute right to choose who you will associate with.

I am sorry you want your parents to be charged as criminals. Do you happen to have your birth certificate? Are your parents noted as your parents on the birth certificate? How do you know for sure the papers were never signed...how do you know she didn;t just show you the papers BEFORE they were signed?
It sounds like you are super mad at your parents, but truth be told, your birthmother was placing you for adoption...is your birth mom wanting you to believe she would have changed her mind?
