I saw this question on another site (non legal site) and I was wondering if anyone can tell me a definitive answer...

This lady lives in Minnesota.

Her daughter (17) is pregnant, she apparently has moved out of the house into her boyfriend's (unsure of his age, possibly also a minor) mother's home.

She is going to get kicked off of her mother's insurance because she is not living in the home, so she will need Medicaid.

The mother was told by a caseworker that if she gets Medicaid, the father of the child would be ordered to pay support (he currently has no job) and pay back the medical spent on the baby.

The issue here, is that she wants to know if the father will be ordered to do so if they are living together and/or dating. I guess if they are a "couple", will the state require him to pay support.

The caseworker told the mom she was unsure of an answer to that question.

So, if a girl receiving Medicaid is living with (or even dating) the boyfriend, and he is supporting the child, will he still have to pay support to the state as well as reimbursement for any welfare (medicaid included).

I think I know the answer to this but I wanted to be 100% sure before I replied to her.

Also- can she force the 17 yr old back into her home? I dont know the laws on that in Minnesota...I think the girl will be 18 soon, but she wants the daughter back home but I dont know if she realizes that it may be possible to get her back home...like I said I dont know the laws about this subject in Minnesota.

Thanks!

I just got off of the phone with Minnesota Medicaid. Once he is ordered to pay child support, it will be figured into the child support payment. Once he's working he can sign up for MinnesotaCare which is affordable health care provided by the state. You can give them the number to call, its 18006573739.

Please open your own subject posts. But in the meantime, please read the post above yours and call Minnesota Medicaid. There's no reason in the world for anyone with a question about a specific state's Medicaid program to be asking about it on the internet. Common sense would tell you the best place to get answers would be from that state's program. What good would it do if someone on here told you No, they won't or Yes they will. There is one way to find out in this individual situation, and that is to ask them.

I didn't need an answer like that, maybe you don't have any common sense your self, just take me out of your forum, didn't know it was just for legal questions, I tried to find out how to make my own thread, but was unable to find the area to do it. Just delete me from your site, sorry I brother you or took you from any important work.

Really? She said please and everything in describing the forum's informal rules designed to help people get the best answer possible and then added extra advice for your specific issue. What kind of answer did you "need"? Someone to tell to to see Sally on the corner and she'll handle everything?

In any event, the answer would be "no". An implant would almost certainly be considered cosmetic, not a medically necessary procedure.

You need to review your care plan and/or call the agency who administers your son's MA.

I spent many years working with this type program. Since the circumstances are always case specific and very often subjective based on the individual's situation and the specific requirements the particular state's particular Medicaid programs, it makes absolutely no sense to ask anyone for advice other than the caseworker who is familiar with the details of this case and the state's rules.

For instance, I'd tend to generally agree with CSO286's statement that a dental implant would be considered cosmetic. However, in a situation where a client was not capable of maintaining his/her own dental appliances, and the lack of teeth was causing serious problems with his activities of daily living, an implant or two might actually be appropriate, and might be paid for by Medicaid. If someone asked on the internet, and was given a no, and then did not run it through with his son's caseworker, how would that be anything helpful?

It used to be a pet peeve of ours there at the office that people would ask for information about what they should do or how to handle a situation from everybody including their brother-in-law who knew somebody who used to work there and Dear Abby, and then tell us what they had done based on this advice months later.
