What is the name of your state? Alaska
My question has to do with the overlapping skills and legal abilities of lawyers and real estate brokers/agents.

Although I currently live in Alaska, this question is intended in a broader sense, so please respond even if you only know about the answer in your state.

I currently work as a land use planner for a municipality, but plan on attending law school in approximately two years. I don't know what state I will attend school in (hence the general nature of this question), but am interested in becoming a real estate agent or broker before I begin law school.

Assuming that all goes as planned, will these certifications (being a licensed real estate agent or broker and being an attorney) be redundant? That is, if I'm a lawyer, can I work as a real estate agent without passing a real estate license exam?

Thanks!

You need to take the exam to get a license but, you don't have to take the pre-licensing course work. You will have had the course work in school.

In NY, passing the bar means that for a $150 fee, you can become a registered broker as well (and a notary too, for that matter), so to answer your question, yes, it could be redundant.
