I broke up with a woman over a year ago for among other reasons, she would send harassing texts. I have had almost no contact with her since.

Recently out of nowhere, she sent me a profanity laced diatribe now accusing me of hacking into her computer with a veiled threat of filing charges.

I am at a loss about this behavior and wondering what to do.

Why do you have to do anything? Ignore her. She's only trying to provoke a reaction. Don't give her one.

Hello cbg

You are right....but I was so taken back and stunned I responded with a very short "I do not know what you are talking about" e-mail.

I was just wondering if a threat of legal action, albeit veiled, is something that an attorney should look at. I mean, are these cases really pursued civilly or criminally over a ex love spat? Because that is all this is.

Thanks

You'd be surprised how many cases are started over an ex love spat :) However, if she sues or you are contacted by police then get a lawyer and talk to no one about it except that lawyer.

She may have gotten hacked and thinks you're the only one who would be capable of doing it. It happens. However, if you're not involved then don't worry about it.

IF she actually files a lawsuit, then get legal help immediately. Otherwise, don't worry about it. The chances that she can successfully convince the state to file charges against you or find a lawyer to sue you (without a hefty retainer up front) are really not that great.

Thank you both for the replies and the advice is sound. I didn't do anything so I am of clean hands I guess is how the lawyers put it. Seems kind of odd she just "discovers" her computer has been compromised when I haven't been within 2,000 miles of her or her computer for the last year.

I guess what worries me is she has a lot of money and has (or used too) a relative that is a lawyer in the DA's office so I don't feel like getting dragged through the wringer.

Sheesh....I just reread her email...... what a psycho.
