What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? oregon Im on ssi and foodstamps and just got a service dog in nov of 2008 and told my case worker to help with the vet bills. she told me in writing that the dog had to be certified thro the guide for the blind but Im not blind. I live in a small town and have tryed to get an attorney but no one wants to help me. I now dont get foodstamps because I have the dog and I have been fighting her on this since nov of 2008 she didnt even give me the 10 days like on the paper said. Service Dog

I would suggest you start with your local Animal Control office (dog licensing).
My county issued to me, a Service Dog I.D. card and dog tag which is renewed each year. This will then establish that your dog is NOT a pet, but a registered service animal, thereby allowing you to keep it and your benefits.

You will also need to show this certification when asked by a business owner while out in public.

Good luck.
