I live in Florida and want to know if anyone can tell me what "Petition for Adjudication of Dependency" means or where I can find a clear non-legalese answer. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

With little known info about your background on what you are going through or about to go through, I have come up with the following to help you;

I have looked in the Black's Law Dictionary and came up with this;

"ADJUDICATION";n. 1. the legal process of resolving a dispute; the process of judicially deciding a case. 2. JUDGEMENT.

"DEPENDENCY"; 2. A relationship between two persons or things whereby one is sustained by the other or relies on the other for support or necessities.

"ADJUDICATORY HEARING"; 1. A hearing held by a juvenile court to determine whether a juvenile has engaged in delinquient conduct; a trial of a child accused of delenquency. 2. ADMINISTRATIVE LAW. An agency proceeding in which the rights and duties of a particular person are decided after notice and an opportunity to be heard. - Also termed adjudicatory proceeding.

I hope this helps a little.

Ex-wifes daughter

Thank you, Ukiah. My situation is that my husbands ex-wife has sole custody of their alledged daughter and now have recvd. paperwork stating she is a victim of the mothers boyfriends physical and attempted sexual abuse. Court states that my husband and alledged father of the child is an abandoning father (not true) but has not requested his prescence at trial. I'm pulling my hair out over this and want to know waht our avenues are. Any ideas or help would be more than appreciated.

First thing I would do is find out the court dates, and retain an attorney to get you started in what ever plan you have in becoming involved or proving he is/isn't the father.

Was paternity ever established? Has a parent/child relationship been determined? It doesn't sound as though there has been. So first thing, is to prove whether he is the father or not. If he is, he will have to explain the circumstances of his uninvolvement with the child.

Are you looking to be involved in this child's life? Are you attempting to gain custody from what you've learned of the situation? (Not to be nosey...) But IF your husband is the father, what are the circumstances of his uninvolvement? Is his name on the birth certificate? Does he pay support each month?

The questions you will be asked will be something along the lines of why after all these years (depending on age) is Why has he not been involved? Which is something a lawyer can address in the courts.
