My husband's Adjustment of Status application has been pending since January, 1999 (yes, almost 2 years) when we had our interview with our local INS office. We have inquired many times as to the status of his Adjustment request and have just been told it is pending approval. We have asked if there is any information missing, and if there is anything more that we need to submit, and we were told that there was nothing more required. He is now in "limbo." Meaning that his fiance visa has expired, but he is not a permanent resident. This caused us considerable headaches when we applied for a mortgage and we had to try and explain this "limbo" status to the underwriter. I suspect that this won't be the last time that we go through this red tape. In the mean time, he has to pay $100 each time he has to renew his work permit, and he has been invitied THREE TIMES to give fingerprints, because the previous records had expired. Is there anything we can do?

The only thing you can do is to contact your local congress person etc.. 2 years of AOS is not uncommon in some areas like CA & FL .. the $100 is only once a year though. I do understand about the mortgage or loans and this will continue to be a slight problem until he gets his 10 year card.
