Administrative Leave - Working another job

I am in the state of Alabama. I know someone who has been on admin leave for a year and a half and has continued to get paid and receive full benefits. Can they work another full time job while on admin leave legally? If caught and it is not legal, what would the repurcussions be? How would they get caught. Thank you for any advice.

That is entirely between the individual and their employer. They can legally work as many jobs as they have time for. There is no legal significance to "administrative leave" in the circumstances you've described. There are no legal repercussions whatsoever, although if the employer is not happy with it they are free to fire the employee. However, if the employer doesn't care the law doesn't care. FYI, my employer provides a form of leave, which can be either paid or unpaid and for which the employee is free to maintain their benefits, which we provide to employees KNOWING that they will be working elsewhere - this particular form of leave is to ALLOW them to work elsewhere for a time. Don't assume that the employer is unaware or that the employer would automatically object.

If this is a state, city or some other kind of governmental job, I suggest you call your local "inquiring minds want to know" investigative reporter for the local television station. They might be interested in this if it's being done at the expense of the taxpayers, so to speak. However, if this is a private company, they can do whatever they want to, it's none of your business and no one cares.
