What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? Michigan

I have a friend who is 6 mos pregnant and wants to give me her baby. What do I have to do to cover myself legally in case she changes her mind.

she is legally allowed to change her mind until she signs over that baby. sorry, but that is not how adoption works.

Additionally there is - usually - a period after the birth in which the adoptive parent/s can change their mind even when the papers have been signed.

(I think we're assuming that Dad will also sign over rights, yes?)

I think that assumption has been made, but it doesn't hurt to emphasize that dad must agree to the adoption as well.

First - this is not a do it yourself project - you MUST have an attorney to make sure all i's are dotted and t's crossed. Also - I believe you have to pass a home study (but since this is private i am not 100% sure)...

Also - as far as covering yourself - you can't..she can change her mind after the birth and not sign the parental termination paperwork...so if she does sign it, she can object to the adoption anytime prior to the formal adoption goes through (3 - 6 months and claim duress or another extenuating circumstance.
