We are in the process of possibly having to take my husbands nephew into our home. We both are in the military and the child is 2. His sister has not been seen or found for two years. She had the baby and just left him with the grandmother. She is somewhere on drugs and in the streets. The grandmother has legal guardianship of him but is now too old and sick to take care of him. She wants for us to adopt him so that he may have a better life. He is in California at the present and we are in Montana. He has a state social worker due to his situation. Since my husbands mother is the legal guardian, what steps do we need to go through to adopt him.

adopting a family member

Hi my husband is military and we are also in the process of adopting a family member. My husband's niece is pregnant and wants us to adopt the baby when it's born because she is very young. Any way I would say your best bet whould be to go to your legal department on base. They are lawyers and can help you with any questions and any paper work you need to have done the only thing they can not do is represent you in court but they can do everything else. And it's also free to you. Good luck I hope every thing works out for you and your family.
