What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? California

I have a 2 year old son. He has not lived with me since he was 4 months old for various reasons. He is currently with a family, whom he has been with this entire time, that I would like to adopt him. I would like to know if there is anything I can do to make the process go faster and have him be adopted by them (he is currently in a court ordered guardianship). I understand that it would terminate my parental rights, but they have agreed to an open adoption and I have seen him several times despite the distance (they live in a different county). I was also wondering if the father would need to do anything as well, to make this go faster.

You can't force an adoption, and Dad may need to be involved.

Bear in mind the conditions set out in an open adoption are very rarely followed - largely because they're unenforceable.

If the father is known, and his parental rights are intact, then he would either need to consent to the adoption.

Is there a specific reason why the father isn't already caring for the child?

answer about father

The father doesn't have him because the courts find him an unsuitable parent. They haven't yet terminated his rights but he's on watch.

Is there a reunification plan in place for Dad?

That aside, he'll still need to be included in the whole process.
