My fiance's ex- wife wants him to adopt her child. The child was a product of date rape (not by my fiance). They got married when the child was 6 months old and he is the only father that she has known. He is allowed to see her but only when it is convenient for his ex. He currently pays for her to go to private school and all of her medical expenses. The birth certificate has father listed as unknown. He didn't want to adopt her before due to the fact that he doesn't trust her because she cheated on him. Would he be better off adopting her and getting legal visitation since he is already paying her expenses? The mother is really pushing this. What is the worst thing that she (the ex) can do to him if he does adopt? How would he go about doing this in Louisiana and would he have to have an attorney?

Your fiance's 'ex-wife' wants him to adopt her child ?? She is probably pushing for the adoption so that he would be liable for CS for the next x years and she can screw him endlesses for increases. Why do I say that ? because of the statement regarding visitation. Just because he adopts and gets legal visitation does not mean she has to comply.. also, custody would be harder since his is not the bio father regardless of the adoption.

Adopting the child would be a nice thing to do if he has a relationship with the child.. but legally it would be a bad move if he does not have a rock solid relationship with the ex. Imagine, he adopts, she marries and then moves 2000 miles away.. what is he going to do then ?
