My husband and I live in florida and a friend has asked us to adopt her 1 year old son. We are unable to have children of our own and are more than willing to adopt this child. My concern is how expensive will this be, and do we have to wait a long period of time, or go through all of these home studies that I have read about? She and the father are willing to sign papers terminating their rights. Where do we begin? The child is currently in foster care and will be given back to them in May. Kim

I applaud what you are doing. You are going to be giving this child a warm loving stable home!

But, you should and do need to follow all proper procedures mandated by the court. Get a family law/adoption attorney and start the paperwork.

Try your Florida State Bar Association or http://www.attorneypages.com
