My husband is interested in adopting my 20-year-old son. We are all permanent residents of the USA and have live in the USA for the last ten years, my son and I are Canadian citizens and my husband is a citizen of Bermudan. My son has lived with his stepfather most of his live and has no real contact with his biological father. At some point we would like to relocate to Bermuda for a few years and would like my son to relocate with us, as we have no relatives in the USA. Bermuda law allows child under the age of 21 to apply for Bermuda status if one of their parents is a born Bermudan. We would like to know what the process is for adoption. Is it something that we could do ourselves or do we require an attorney? Does the adoption take place in the country that you reside in or do you have to file in the country of the child’s birth? Any information that you can provide would be helpful. Thank you for your help in advance.
