I am 26 years old & just found out a little over a year ago who my biological father is. My mother was divorced when I was born and no father listed on my birth certificate. I was given her (& her ex-husband's last name). I was raised thinking that he was my father. Last year, after much questioning, my mother finally told me the truth about my father. This did not come as a great surprise as I had heard rumors about my real dad. I now have a relationship with my bio dad & 2 of my sisters. My question is: Can I, as an adult, have a declaration of legitimation done or would my father have to adopt me to have his name on my birth certificate? It is very important to me to have this done. Also, what do you think about my last name being changed on the birth certificate? I want my dad's name listed as my father, but am not sure about changing my last name. I was raised with this name, & although the man I thought was my father never acknowledged me as being his daughter, his family members accepted me and treated me as family. Also, if I were to change my last name on my birth certificate, what about things such as my maiden name on my marriage license and my daughter's birth certificate? I hope all this makes sense. Any help would be appreciated!
