No, not really! If I absolutely HAVE to, then I have no choice. Gee, this is such a great forum. I cannot afford an attorney. I should be able to file the required paperwork myself. All I want to know is what the required forms are in the state of Texas. I don't think I'm asking for a brief. If you simply don't know the answer, just say you don't know the answer. Denigrating comments are unnecessary.

Thank you Isis1. Since my local courthouse is not being helpful, I guess we can just know where the heart stands, and let the paperwork go.

Really? Ok, have a nice day.

Yep. We're a great forum. The "customers" are something else...

I never said I didn't want to go to the courthouse. I contacted them first via email (they are an hour drive away). They said they could not give me the forms. Last time I checked anyone in this country can file court papers themselves. All I asked was what the appropriate forms to file were. Obviously there is no one in this forum that has the knowledge I seek.

So show up in person. Isis told you exactly what to do and say.

Sure you can.

Do it wrong, and your forms (along with the filing fee) will be tossed. Waste of your time and money. But hey, go file some forms!

I don't know off the top of my head. I'm not in TX, and never filed anything there.

Reason I refuse to look them up for you? Your snotty attitude.

Go do it yourself.

Frankly, I think it's a waste of time and money, anyway. As an adult, there's rarely any point to an adoption. Use the money to take him on a cruise. Or take him to a ballgame. Or take him fishing. Or whatever.

In my view, it's an empty gesture. If he knows that you love him already, getting legally adopted doesn't add anything to that. And if you simply want a symbol, just change your name to his - far easier and simpler than an adoption.

Just make sure everyone's will and living will is set up properly.
