What is the name of your state? MT

I'm a grocery cashier and need to know what restrictions controls I have to prevent selling to underage persons. If the person buying is 21 but he has under 21 year old friends with him, can I refuse to sell beer or wine to him? I don't want NOT to sell to the young people, but I don't want a huge fine and to lose my job because I can't find a definitive list of what I can and can't legally do to either sell or refuse to sell to young people. Perhaps you could e-mail me a web site for Montana law that would clarify the rules so that I can have that and print out copies for the other cashiers.
Thank you

The liquor control agency in your state has guidelines. Contact them and they will tell you the answers to all your questions.

Your employer should also give you guidelines.

I have a lot of sympa for y'all being behind the register since I was there once.

I always took the attitude that you cannot get in trouble for NOT selling!

Good luck...

You may want to talk to your manager about the company policy on the matter. When I was in college in NC, the grocery stores around campus had a policy that not only you, but everyone with you had to show ID and be of age for you to purchase the alcohol. The rule had nothing to do with the a state law, but the store policy...if your store does not have any such policy, you might suggest it.

I am a store manager for a major grocery chain in Colorado. That is one of our biggest headaches. Alcohol and tobacco. We train to I.d. everyone that looks under 30. If the person carrying the beer etc. to the register I i.d. If they are the ones paying for it I i.d. You have the right to refuse anyone the sale of liquor in colorado.
