What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? NJ

Only for those that are interested -Recent publication regarding suugested calculations for spousal support.

Interestingly, a case was recently decided in which it was proven that a judge ordered support based on a flat calculation and didn't take into account any factors such as the expense factors that the "monied" spouse was also ordered to address. The spousal support amount is now being re-calculated.

When I ran flat salary numbers using the calculations (about 3 of them give you pretty much the same result), and taking nothing else into consideration, it calculated to my ordered support amount.

It is irritating that so little thought is given to the cost of marital expenses being inequitably divided when awarding support. Which in my case included custody of my son with no CS from Dad.

We can put people on the moon yet still can't manage to include accountants in the divorce process. Instead we rely on parties trained in law, not numbers, to decide monetary matters. I just keep on writing to my legislators and hopefully this will change some day.

I ran it, too. The amounts generated were a good bit higher than what I paid, but the times are very much longer. On a 14 year marriage, I paid 4 years - the calculator shows 5 to 14 years - which seems pretty excessive since my ex was earning a good living and there was no rehabilitation involved.

I don't know how long ago your award was granted. Mine was 3 three years ago.

I wish the first calculation was used for mine!! It would be substantially lower but much more appropriate for a lifetime grant.
