i was recently divorced after 35 years of marriage. I have never worked outside of a family business we owned. I am not able to earn enough to support myself with the job i currently have. my ex was ordered to pay lifetime alimony, and in new jersey he must support me in the fashion i was living with him. he was to maintain a life insurance policy with me as the benny, and half of all our properties. to date i have not recieved any of it because he moved to south carolina and remarried. he refuses to pay me anything. i am slowly sinking. my attorney says he cannot do anything because he can't pratice in south carolina. is there anything i can do. can i put a lien on his property down there. my counsel said i have to contact an attorney in that state. i have no money. with my age and no job history or skills i really can't earn enough to survive. thank you so very much for any help you can offer. one last note. he owns a home and business in south carolina.

File contempt of court charges. He was ordered in NJ to pay and you are still there. The order does not become void just because he moves out of the state and gets remarried. You can get the paperwork from the courthouse and file yourself, you do not need a lawyer. The courts will require him to be at a hearing, or risk going to jail. Also, he will still be responsible for paying you all the support he has not been paying these last few months, or years, however long it has been.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong. I might be getting CS too confused with alimony. I'm thinking they work along the same general lines...
