It means that someone sued you.... and got a judgment against you. That judgment gives them additional rights to seize, levy and/or garnish any non-exempt assets you might have.

Lots of things COULD happen, including garnishing your wages, seizing your bank account(s), seizing any non-exempt assets (vehicles, property, etc.) that you might own.

If you have a banking account, you might find it froxzen or empty in the near future.

Go find out how the judgement was won before the court date.

Thank -you , if a judgement is won against someone,

new jersey, what happens next? This is probably a dumb question, but do they come to where you live to go through your personal belongings, your home, etc. to take anything that may be able to be sold towards the judgement amount they have won against you? as they can do to your bank account, Im just wondering, thank-youi

There are several different things that 'could' happen... ranging from being called to court in a 'debtors exam' (where they ask you all kinds of questions trying to locate assets) to a 'notice' that your bank account has been seized to a knock at the door by a couple of sheriff deputy's wanting to 'look for assets'.

nj,through your stuff? janice
If you don't pay a judgment, the deputy(s) can knock on your door and make a demand for payment. If you refuse, they will simply start asking you LOTS of questions... do you own a television, car, bank account, etc. They can do pretty much anything..... as long as they do NOT breach the peace. They cannot crawl through your window and check your underwear drawer.
Wouldn't it be simply to just pay what you owe???
