What is the name of your state?DE
I currently get $85 a week from my daughters father for child support. This is not court ordered, its on his own but court papers are in process because I filed when we split but he started paying on his own. What happen was I put her in Daycare, which is $132 a week and he said he would pay $85 of that. he does get diapers when she needs them, we take turns buying them. My questions is this...He clears about 600 a week and a friend of mine gets $200 a week for child support for her child and her daughters father makes about the same...Should I go to court and allow them to look at his/mine wages and decide on a figure? Would I get more then this or is this about the average for a child. I dont want to drag him through the mud and deal with the courts but sometimes I feel that $85 a week is not much for a child. I will soon be moving out on my own and things can get expensive. My daughter lives with me and see's her father every other weekend and once a week.

85 is alot more than other get. It is still good to have your child support court ordered. If he is ever late or something happens the court will make him pay. Get it in writing from a judge. I know in NY state its 17% of your gross wages.

Honestly could you raise your daughter on 85 a week if you had nothing else. Every situation is different and you may get more or the same. Just get it in writing.

you're right. $350/month ISN'T very much for a child.
you need to get over this notion that as a mother you can sit around, play house and wait for the check to come.
if you want more money, get a JOB!

It is good to have paternity, support and visitation all determined by a court.

Don't forget to thank him for paying before the order and for anything he later does beyond the order. A caring father is a terrible thing to waste.
