What is the name of your state?Washington. My mother has Alzheimer's and is extremely stubborn. I am the POA. I would like to have someone stay with Mom on the nights when I work night shift. She insists that "no" she doesn't need anyone. However, in case of fire it would be very helpful to have someone to help her outside. Now what if there was a fire? Would I be sent to jail for "elder neglect" even though she insists she doesn't need help? :(

You are responsible for your mother. Tell mom you won't be alright with her being alone and don't want to worry about her you're at work. Hire someone to be with mom when you are at work.

Thanks BlondiePB. I know Mom was stubborn and bossy before she got Alzheimer's and now she is super stubborn and super bossy. :( Yes I am going to have to put my foot down and insist she have someone here while I am working.

Update. I will not be going to jail. I convinced Mom that the cat has a "serious heart condition" and must have a "catsitter"while I am at work. :)
