Am I Legally Married?

It looks like my friend has done wrong and she will definitely get what's coming to her.

I realize that most of you like to see someone get punished when they actually deserve it. I do too. Plus it makes for interesting reading on these forums.

So I thought you might want to know how much trouble she is in.

Her husband is going to kick her out of the house and she has some serious medical issues (which no doubt will require future hospital stays). This will likely mean going on social security disability and eventually getting on medicaid. In her case it's not that easy. What if the social security administration needs proof that she is no longer getting medical insurance through her husband? Well, how can she prove that she no longer gets insurance if she never got legally in the first place?

I am afraid that if she does things the 'right' way from here on out it will all catch up to her. Seems as if staying low on the radar is her only hope but that isn't going to be possible anymore.

Talk about being between a rock and a hard place.

Oh well. If she weren't a criminal she wouldn't have a problem.He can actually drop her NOW if there is not a court order stating otherwise and his insurance allows it. At the very latest, if either files for divorce, her HUSBAND can most likely petition to drop her from his insurance IMMEDIATELY due to the bigamy. Unless she can PROVE that he knew and participated in the bigamy willingly, knowingly, etcetera and etcetera. Don't care that she needs medical treatment. Looks like she will be in debt. Not really sympathetic to her.

No. Only the person who commits bigamy can be charged. I guess, theoretically, he could be an accessory to the crime, but I can't imagine that going anywhere.

Of course, if he knowingly married someone who he knew was still married to someone else then he's guilty of massive stupidity, but that, unfortunately, is not a crime in the U.S.

Not only is it not a crime, it gets you elected to public office!
