am i really married? arrgh!

Five years ago my husband (?) and I were married in the state of New Jersey, where we lived at the time (well, actually, where we still live). Just so there's no confusion, rest assured I'm talking legal marriage here...blood test, marriage license, small ceremony performed at City Hall by the mayor of our town (who is licensed by the state of NJ to perform marriages). So, for all intents and purposes, we were legally married. Or so we thought...

Cut to this week, when I finally managed to obtain a copy of my birth certificate, which I'd always been told mysteriously disappeared when I was a baby (long story, not relevant here), only to discover that the name on it is NOT the name I've used my entire life...in other words, not the name that appears on our marriage license.

So here's my dilemma: Am I legally married? Or am I a free woman?

So, is the disclaimer quoted above, that appears on all your posts, a lie? Or, if it's true that you are not, in fact, an attorney, then why did you respond to my question? You aren't qualified to answer. Given the flawed logic, lousy grammar, and general idiocy of your other posts, I wouldn't believe any answer you gave, anyway.

Last but not least, can you please diagram the following sentence fragment: "A question in which I know the exact answer to..." because try as I may, I can't seem to find any book of English grammar in which it makes sense.

I'm glad you posted it, though, because it always amuses me to be verbally abused by my intellectual inferiors.

For the record, my original question stands and if there is anyone out there who is, in fact, qualified to answer it, I'd be grateful for a response. I realize I'm asking a lot, and this is probably a vain hope, but I hope that people who don't know the answer will have the maturity and intelligence to restrain themselves.

Requesting knowledgeable response

Is there anyone who is qualified to answer my question regarding the legality of a marriage license issued in the state of New Jersey? I need to know whether a couple is legally married if one spouse's name is incorrect on the license. BTW, I'm not talking Debby with a "y" instead of an "ie" here, I'm talking a completely different name. (Oh, and my name isn't Debby, either, I just used that as an example. It's Brunhilde...chuckle)

Not even my hairdresser knows for sure.

Oh no, you're not only not married, you have also been driving around with an invalid D.L., earning wages using a fictitious SSN, and you'll probably have to go all the way back to kindergarten, then progress through all those years of education again.

Most noticeable on your initial post was the smiley face when asking if you were a "free" woman. Sorry, it's not THAT easy.
