I currently live in Minnesota and is where all of this took place. My fiance took care of his son by himself for the most part, the mother disappeared for over a year. Eventually she came back for him, and he refused to let her take him. She had a long history of drug abuse. Words were exchanged and she left and came back with the police, he was arrested and put in jail. The son went with the mother for a few days and she then gave him to the childs grandparents.
When dad bailed himself out and talked to the grandparents who agreed to look after the child for a few days until dad could get things back together. The grandparents turned the child over to child protection and he was placed in foster care. The mother was never involved in events after that as far as we know. Dad was asked to give up his parental rights and refused. He was led to believe the foster family wanted to adopt the child. He never went to court to have his rights terminated, nor was her notified of such action. After some digging we found out the child was in foster care for a little over a year and was then placed with the grandparents. He always wanted his son, do we have any recourse.
