I was given my annual performance review by my manager a few weeks ago. She gave me a very good review, and told me of her recommended salary increase, which was substantial (and well deserved). I was told that her boss, the director of the deptartment had endorsed the review and raise. She said she needed to get approval from the president of the company, but this sounded like a formality. I get paid twice monthly. After my next paycheck did not include the raise, my manager told me the raise would be retroactive. When the next check did not include the raise, I contacted the H.R. Manager, who also stated it would be retroactive.
When I returned from my vacation, earlier this week, my manager told me the president had rejected the raise, and also the review. In addition, the director had rescinded his endorsement of each. The president and director (now) felt my manager's expectations of my job performance were way too low. Apparently, I am being held 'accountable' for failed deadlines. The reality is the reasons for these slipped timeframes were completely beyond my control. I acted under the direct supervision of my manager, and received nothing but praise and recognition from her every step of the way. The director should be taking responsibility for his failed project, and not try to hide behind the little guy (girl)!
I have documentation of much of the goings on. This all came as a complete shock to me, as I am an extremely dedicated, hardworking individual. I put in long hours, and worked nights and weekends to get this job completed. My manager's review was fair and just. The president said I will not be getting any raise at all until I complete the my next assignment by a specific deadline. I feel this deadline is completely unrealistic, and that I am being set up to fail.
I feel completely taken advantage of and mistreated. The director is extremely arrogant and speaks to me in a condescending manner. I am so distressed by all of this.
Unfortunately, I cannot afford to leave this job until I have another job. It's just so hard to be there and do my job with the same gusto.
Does anybody know if I have any recourse? Thank you.
