I spoke with 3 different lawyers.
All 3 said they would need 3 years of tax filing to proceed.

This is the main reason I haven't filed chappter 7 yet.

This sounds very odd to me.

I recall ny ex-classmate from berkeley who had an Internet company and obviously went bust in 2001 after being a millionaire (on paper) for about 2 years. Obviously everyone was just queueing up to lend him money then - so he had to go BK. He definitely filed before filing tax returns, but later on had to do so - to ensure he did not owe anything to Federal Government and/or CA. Noone ever asked him for 3 years returns - well to the best of ny recollection.....
