What is the name of your state? oklahoma. my attorney has been telling me that we will date after the case is over (divorce case). we like each other very much..unfortunately this has come to the attention of oposing counsel. will my attorney get in trouble for this and what can i do to help him? i believe that we genuinely care about each other...

Though certainly of questionable ethics, there is nothing wrong with an attorney dating a 'former' client.... after their legal issue has been resolved. Now, if you had said you were CURRENTLY having a relationship, that would be different... and a violation of the canon of ethics.

I would not trust this lawyer; he is trying to get to you because you are vulnerable. When it comes to legal ethics, if it smells bad, it's bad and this smells bad.

the problem is that i think that he is in trouble and he is saying it is because i made my feelings known to him, but he has been very obvious about his in front of opposing counsel and my x. we also have not dated...i am wondering what other motivation he has had. i know it is okay for him to date FORMER clients...opp. counsel is trying to say that my atty. and i are currently "involved"...i do not know what to do to help my attorney..or whether to just accept that you are right and it is a bad situation....i thought he was genuine, as i am a genuine person myself
