What is the name of your state? What is the name of your state? California

My sons are 18 and 20 and own their own cars. They will be living with me while they go to school. They're cars aren't worth insureing except for the state minimum's.

My question is since they are adults, but live with me, am I responsible for any accident or damage they cause if they do not carry enough insurance ( since they can only afford the minimum) to cover the damage, or if they let they policies lapse?

Thanks

No, as adults they are responsible for their own actions. If you let them drive your car then you may bare some responsibility.

Djohnson is correct. I would also add that you should let the boys take out their own insurance policies, not affiliated with you. Also their cars should be in their name.

Go to: http://www.dmv.ca.gov/pubs/dl600.pdf#search='California%20drivers%20handbook' (Takes a little while to load.)

Type "automatically" in the find box and the second one that is highlighted is the section that tells you that you are not liable. It's under the green title, "Accidents, Insurance, and Minors".
