What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)?

New York

I was arrested for petit larceny, but my sentence ended up being for disorderly conduct. This was part of a plea bargain. Because of this, I'm now unemployed. When I consent to background checks, do the potential employers see what I was arrested for, or what the plea bargain charge was?

Depending on the background check company, a criminal check can include both convictions and non convictions. Arrests that don't result in charges, and charges that do not result in convictions, and charges that are reduced or dismissed, can all show up on the report.

You might want to run a background check (or two) on yourself to see what shows up. You could find errors in the report that need correcting.

Not all background checks are created equal. Depending on how deep and thorough a check is made the answer could be both, or neither.
