As I was eating a nutritional bar by a well known manufacturer I noticed what seemed to be a hair stemming from inside it. I called my girlfriend over to look at it, and told her to pull it out. It didn’t come out easy so we got tweezers. We still couldn’t pull it out and opened the bar. It turns out that there was what looks to be a BandAid cooked into the bar. Half of it is gone, and I believe I ate it because the previous bite had a weird texture to it.

I am absolutely disgusted and nauseated by the BandAid in my bar. I do not know what to do at this point and whether or not I have a legal case (and if I do, whether it is worth pursuing), or if I should just complain to a manufacturer. I appreciate any and all advice. Thank you.

Complain to the manufacturer. They will reimburse you for your product purchase.

I wouldn't overly worry about the bandaid itself unless this was a raw product.

You really want to feel sick? Read what the government considers "acceptable" levels of feces and rat hair in most food products.

While the company may offer a bit of extra compensation, you did not win the lawsuit lottery.

I spoke to the manufacturer. They asked for the bar with bandaid back. Should I send it? Also, they asked the "Best used by" date, and it was by Dec 2010, does that make a difference? What is a good amount of money to ask for? Or shoudl I just ask for coupons?

Yes, take pictures if it makes you feel better and send them the bar.

Odds are, they will fight (if you take them to court) that since you were eating a bar 10 months after the "eat by" date, you were already assuming a risk in eating the bar.

You aren't going to get any money more than the current value of a replacement bar. They may up that to the family pack, but that is as far as they are going to go.
