I am the victim of Identity theft. My wallet was stolen 2 weeks ago and the offenders made a couple purchases on my debit card before I had called and reported it stolen. After all of my credit cards and bank cards were shut down the offenders made a pay by phone payment to my Walmart credit card in a attempt to continue purchasing. Walmart processed this payment with the banking information they had on file. Walmart does not require identity verification when making a payment so this was processed through my bank (Teachers Credit Union) as a electronic check. I called my bank and was told I needed to come in and sign a paper stating that I did not make this payment so that funds could be returned. When I got to the bank the woman who waited on me was very skeptical about my complaint and did not allow me to sign this document She did however make me call Walmart so that she could speak with them and told me that I had to wait 60 days until Walmart finished their investigation and returned payment. Though I pay extra for account protection services I was not accommodated but treated like a scammer. All of my money was gone and my account stood in the negative, while I struggled that whole week trying to get gas to get to work and food to feed my kids. My husband had still had me on his account so yesterday when I got paid I took my check and deposited into his account. Today I go to get a debit card for the account and come to find out the joint account was withdrawn $1200 dollars and they told me that the checks I had cashed were returned by the other bank. The only check I took to the bank was my payroll check yesterday and that was a good check from a real company. They began to further explain to me 3 days prior that I had went to 3 different branches and cashed 3 different payroll checks from a person that I do not work for while I was at work. I told them that these were not my transactions and they told me they were and that I provided ID. I told them again and again that my wallet was stolen and that my ID's debit and credit cards where all in it. I then asked them how is it that someone who is not me can go to 3 different branches and provide my ID and nobody even look at the person to verify identity. I explained to them that this was a mistake allowed by their lack of attention and that they were responsible for giving away that money. They called corporate and they refused to process the 3 documents I signed stating these were not my transactions and return my money. I was told They have to investigate and again my family is going to go with out and even more so because now my husband is unable to pay the bills and rent from his account and I am unable to get our family's necessities. I called the police and filed another in person report from the supervisors office at the bank. I cried my eyes out for 3 hrs in that bank begging them to make this right and I didn't expect they would but I hoped someone would believe me and help me. I don't know what to do anymore. I need some serious legal advice.
