What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)?
Arkansas

This may be in the wrong forum.. if it is someone please direct me to the right one.

My boyfriend graduated from college May 8, 2009. For a gift, my parents ordered a S & K Menswear giftcard in the sum of $200 which as bought on April 30, 2009 online. Since the card was purchased, we realized all the stores in our state have been shut down due to Chapter 11 bankruptcy. I have done some research and found out S & K filed for Chapter 11 on February 9, 2009, 30 stores were closed then. After months of trying to keep their heads above water, they decided to shut down. Starting May 21, 2009, they started liquidation of the website and all remaining stores. My boyfriend was going to use the giftcard online but there are only 3 items left on the website as of yesterday. My boyfriend has tried to get in touch with someone from the company but keeps getting the run around. My mother sent an email to the Chapter 11 Bankruptcy department at S & K requesting a refund because we were unaware of their bankruptcy when the card was purchased. She received an email saying due to bankruptcy laws, they are unable to make refunds. This has turned into a huge headache and we just want the money back so my boyfriend can get a suit somewhere else. There was nothing on their website to suggest they were in bankruptcy when my mother bought the card.

Is there anything we can do? What does Bankruptcy laws say to keep S & K from refunded money?

Thanks for any advice.

Your BF is essentially an unsecured creditor and will receive nothing.
He needs to find a store locally that's still open and use that card.

Thanks for your advice... I wish it could be that easy. The only store that is "local" is 8 hours away from us, and it will probably be closed before we even get there.
