Best Buy switching prices

Today, I purchased a flat screen LCD TV from Best Buy.
Their ad said "all TV's over $699 are on sale" but did not
specify a discount amout, it just said that discounts
would be taken at the register. When I found the TV I
wanted, I chose it for the price tag of $999.99. The TV
above it was a different brand, for $1233.99 and he told
me if I'd prefer the other brand, he could knock $100.00
off. I told him I would just stick with the $999.99 TV.
When he came back, he said "This TV is actually supposed
to be marked $1233.99 too, but since the tag says $999.99,
we have to honor that". I said OK and went to pay. I
presented the cashier with my purchase tag and a 10% off
coupon for any purchase over $100.00. He told me I could
not use the coupon, since it was for merchandise that was
regular price, and that since the TV was supposed to be
$1233.99 and they were "giving" it to me for $999.99, I
already got the discount. Then he called a manager over
that told me the same thing about TV's all being on sale,
etc. But there is NOTHING in the store to indicate what
the orginial price was before the "sale" or even that
everything is on sale....only the ad that comes out in the
Sunday paper each week, which we do not get. Did I just
get cheated? I feel like I did.

Sounds to me like you got a pretty good deal. A $ 1233.99 TV for $999.00.

Soooo, maybe you would have save another $10.00 bucks with that 10% off coupon. If you can afford a $1000.00 TV, you can afford to take the $10.00 loss.

Without the coupon you got it for $999, plus you still have the coupon to use again.

I think you have a legitimate complaint. The problem here is that Best Buy was making up the rules as they went along. Do you think the 'real' price of the TV was $1233? Or do you think they just told you that so they could pretend you were already getting a 'deal' and wouldn't have to pay the discount?

TVs are a huge volume business for Best Buy -- I find it very hard to believe they made a 'mistake' on the price.

I doubted they made a mistake on the price either, since when I checked online, that was the going price for the same television, give or take a few dollars at almost all retailers.

As for how I was able to purchase such an expensive TV, since the ability to do that appears to bother some of you....it was a small amount of money left to me by my father who died. I live frugally, so I didn't have any outstanding debt that needed to be paid so I decided to do something fun with the money instead.

And 10% of $999 is not $10, it's $100, which is worth fighting for, IMO.

Thank you for telling me what I can/cannot afford. However, 10% of $1000.00 is $100.00, not $10.00. And no, I cannot "afford" to take $100.00 loss.

....I have "bad karma" because I feel they were being dishonest? Nowhere in the store did it say that any of the items were on sale. The only indicator of a sale was a flyer that the manager showed me, a flyer that only comes in the local paper, which I do not get. There were no displays or tags that stated what the original price was or what my "sale" price was or how much I was supposed to be saving. It was simply a price which was not out of line with the other TV's of the same style/quality/brand. The sale ended yesterday at closing. I went back to the store today and guess what? The TV was still priced at $999.00. I asked the clerk if that was the correct price and he said it was. So, they basically cheated me out of the 10% discount I should have been given. How does that make me wrong?

None of these stores give double discounts. If you look at most ads and coupons they explain that. Enjoy your TV for what you paid.
