What is the name of your state? NJ

My friend and I went to the beach today in Belmar, NJ. The meter for our spot was broken. I stuck a quarter in and it wouldn't go down. The machine then said, "ERROR- OUT OF ORDER." So there was nothing I could do. We come back 2.5 hours later and there is a ticket on the windshield. The parking officer also managed to unjam the machine. How can we be held responsible? Should we fight it, it's $45? I know it will be hard to prove the p.o. did this.

Ignorance of the law is not excuse. Broken parking meters are to be treated as a no parking zone. You have no defense, pay the ticket.
