What is the name of your state? Washington

I live in Washington State. I bought a car lastnight, the owner said the ONLY thing wrong with the 96' Nissan Sentra is the speedometer isn't working. My husband barely made it to work this morning, the car has a major problem! Is there any law, that the owner has to be sure it passes inspection before selling?

The vehicle was required to pass an emission test within the past 180 days. Other than that, there is no requirement for any other inspection, it is strictly up to the buyer to have the vehicle inspected prior to the purchase. Unless sold with a specific warranty, the sale of cars by private parties are considered "as-is".
