What is the name of your state?North Carolina

I recently bounced a check, only my 2cnd one in 18years. My bank charged me a bounced check fee and sent me a notice of such. The company I bounced the check to never contacted me but redeposited the check and it cleared. On the day it cleared they also debited my checking account $30 extra, I am guessing for the check bouncing. I found out when I received my bank statement which was almost a month after they took the extra money. I am very lucky they did not cause anything else to be returned. If they had notified me I would have brought them the money or authorized the debit, but they took it upon themselves to dip into my account. Is this legal? Thank you.

"Is this legal?"
*** More than likely yes. What did the bank say when you contacted them about this??

I have been to some stores that have a notice up about paying by check. And in the fine print at the bottom it states, that in the event your check is returned due to non- sufficient funds you are giving them the permission to electronically redeposit the check and also withdraw the returned check fee.

Bellak that is becoming more normal When I worked in a gas station we had Telechek Electronic Check acceptance . The customer had to fill out and sign the check , then we ran it through the machine and once the check was OKd then the customer had one more slip to sign and we stamped the check canceled once they signed it and returned it to them . If the check wasnt returned to you at the counter and your really curious you should be able to find out what your states laws are for electronic check acceptance maybe by asking your own bank to start with .
