If I wanted to change my daughter's last name to mine, could I file for it against my ex's wishes?

I don't think I can but my daughter has recently become kind of sensitive to the issue that her last name is different. I am kind of hesitant to follow through with her request to change her name as she has been using that name since birth, and I feel like this is probably just a stage, but I told her I would look into it.

no i have remarried. she is aware that she is the only one in the house whose name is different.

my hubby, our son, his daughter and i have the same name and she doesn't.

to say that dad would have a fit is a bit of an understatement.

well could you legally add a hypenated name? Well, my stepbrothers mother remarried and her husband wanted to change his name and my dad said NO. That was the end of that. You can probally get away with just adding it for her sake to like school records ect. Being that she does live with you maybe she will go for that. My son adds my husbands to his and says he has 3 last names. He uses my maiden name too even though I dont. I guess it makes him feel better. Example. He says I am Bobby Donaldson Jacobs Doe...
Getting of the subject a bit. My sister in law went to renew her Drivers license and told the person she was going to get married the following month. I guess the person was sympathetic or what but change it to her boyfriends last name. Well, they never got married so.....
