What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? VA

I received a letter from (follow if you can) my boyfriend's ex- girlfriend's atty this afternoon. Basically asking for my fianancial information as I am the main provider in our household. Now I have ben reading this website and even if this were true (that I am the main provider in OUR household) it doesn't matter as I am not a party to their case.
I called the atty's office and told them that not only are we not living together, but even if we were I am not responsible for the support of his daughter, and the atty said "If you want this child to continue to flourish you will pay his support for him."
I told him I was unaware he wasn't paying his support, and the atty said" oh well he is up to date but with his recent layoff Ms. Ex wants to ensure payment and since you are his provider we will be taking your income into consideration."

Now after I flew off the handle with BF he came over and looked at the letter and siad he didn't think it was from her lawyer at all, and sure enough with a little research the letter head it is on was her lawyer's but my BF thinks it looks like it's been whited out typed in and then copied. I looked in the phone book and the laywer's main number is differnt but some offices have numerous numbers.

BF and I are thinking this is simply a scam of what i don't know. But I just want to makes sure this isn't possible.
Thanks in advance!!

Thank you I feel like an absolute jerk now I didn't even think about that!@ I received it in the mail and the evelope was typed! Thanks True!

i would also call the real number to the law office and tell them that someone is using their letterhead to commit fraud.

And that if they want to try to force a NON PARTY to the case to pay child support with certain threats then the bar can be informed of such tactics.
