What is the name of your state? NY
I just resigned my lease for another year but now want to bid on a condo that is too cheap to pass up. I wouldn't be able to afford to pay the mortgage on the condo and the rent nor would i want to. I've heard that in NY that it is very common to give the landlord notice and just move out and give up your last month's rent and security deposit. is that true or is that just some sort of urban legend?

Unless your written lease says you can do that, it's an urban legend. However, a good portion of leases do have some sort of early termination provision, so read your and see if you got lucky.

Also , you can try negotiation with the LL . If you make an agreement get it in writing .

Also be aware if you break your lease , you are responsible ONLY for the months the rental goes unrented , not the whole lease period , unless the LL makes a good faith effort to rent it and can not .
