I am from Boston, MA and I am loosing my mind! I had a major spinal fusion surgery back in 2009, which was not 100% succsessful because I still have back pains and left me with a terrible posture. After a visit to the emergency room this week due to excruciating pains in m lower back, I found out I have a broken rod and a fractured one. I am so scared! I had two different surgeries (one took 13 hrs and the other one more than 9hrs). I read of other people having broken rods...I don't understand why my doctor did not inform me that this might happen? Do I have to go through another 10 hr surgery for the doctors to fix the problem? I don't understand how is it posible for those rods to breake!? I am not even a big person...can someone...please, share with me some information to help me deal with this?

**A: you need to do a heck of a lot more research. Yes, you need surgery to fix the problem. And I am not even a medical doctor and I can tell you that.

But of course! I do know I will have to go through another surgey because I cannot even walk with the stabbing pain in my back. The research I found was from a recalled for Blackstone Medical Modular Spinal Fixation System from 2005, which I don't think has nothing to do with the titanium...I don't know. I only know there were people in the same situation I am now and I just want people to share with me their situation. They are keeping me on strong pain killer to coupe with the pain until I see the doctor who did the surgery.

If you go back and review the paperwork that you signed prior to your surgery, I am sure you will find that you WERE informed of the risk of this happening.

yes there should be going to a surgery to fix the problem and i am sure that your surgery informed you in a written documents, you should be reading it to be sure.
