What is the name of your state? Illinois

While barbcuing, I melted 3-4 strips of siding. I got a letter from my condo association telling me that it is my responsibility to get the damage fixed (as pe rthe by0laws which I don't disagree with).

So I asked them to give me the correct color of the siding so that I can hire a contractor to fix it. They refused and informed to that I can only get the work done by an approved (by the board) contractor. Also, I cannot dispute the amount that he/she will charge me. Rather they will just bill me for it. When asked as to why I cannot get an independent quote or hire a contractor, I was told "because the directors said so."

My questions are:
Do I have to accept whatever my condo association charges me? If yes then why and if no then under what circumstances do I say no to them.

Also, if there is nothing int he bylaws and it is just a dcision bt the board does it stand?

What course of action can I take against such arbitrary decisions?

Thanks & Regards,

Go ahead and get an estimate that way you will have a general idea as to what the cost should be. If you get a bill for 2 or 3 times your estimate then I would dispute it.

**A: you are free to obtain your own estimates from other contractors.

**A: possibly, especially if the board approved the contractor.
