I had a student loan almost 10 years ago . The truck driving school i went to had an instructor that had me blackballed from getting a job in the field . I tried in three surrounding states . I have no proof of this other than a conversation I alone heard when I was applying at one of the trucking companies. now a collection agency has the debt and are calling my landlord . leaving messages on my voice mail at work pretending to be a customer. Can they do this . I plan on negotated with the origial creditor in the near future to pay the outstanding debt . Originally I refused to pay due to not being able to use my license to gain work. Now , I am older and have been slowy fixing my credit . I don't feel that I need to pay thousands of dollars in intrest from a collection agentcy . The original debt was not that much and can be paid rather quickly. Should I get a lawyer ? Please help with some options.
